If you’re a die-hard poker fan, then you must have heard about the World Poker Tour or WPT. Although WSOP is still the biggest name in the world of poker, WTP is also gaining popularity at a rapid rate right now.
Incorporated in 2002 by Steven Lipscomb, the shows and the main events of WPT Enterprises, Inc. are broadcasted in over 150 countries all around the world. So, if you’re just starting out your poker career and want to get the feel of what an intense competition really feels like, WPT is the perfect starting point.
In this article, we’re going to discuss the top three facts about the World Poker Tour that will help you get to know more about it.
So, let’s dive straight in.
1. World Poker Tour Is Free To Watch, But With A Twist
Although the doors to the World Poker Tour or WPT is always open for anyone to watch, it’s not without a twist. It’s true that it’s free for everyone, but you’ll have to go through a lot of trouble. Let alone getting its tickets.
Yeah, it’s free, but you still need tickets. And these tickets are numbered. That means when you buy a ticket with a certain number such as 708, and all the seats are full, you’ll only get access to see the match if someone with the ticket number 706 leaves. It works pretty much on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Also, you’ll not get the tickets from WPT so you have to contact the casino that going to host the event. Pretty tiring, huh?
2. Buy-ins And Tournament Money
There is a different range of buy-ins in the World Poker Tournament and the amount usually depends on the venue and the type of event. While mini-events has a buy-in range of $50 – $2,500, the main event has a buy-in range of $5,000 – $20,000. Players also get to participate in the main event through satellite entry.
And after collecting all this money, it creates an impressive pool of cash, of which, the winner of the tournament gets around 35-40 percent. The champion of the main event last year got $2.7 million out of its 8 million prize pool. And the rest of the money is distributed among the other 5 finalists and the “In The Money” players. If you succeed to win some tables, your reward will be at least in six figures even if you don’t make it to the finals.
3. The Silver Bracelet Of World Poker Tour
The biggest player in the poker world, WSOP, gives away a golden bracelet to each of its winners every year. And now, it’s synonymous to a mark of excellence. So to counter it, WPT introduced its own version of the signature bracelet. And it’s the WPT silver bracelet that has WPT’s logo engraved in it.
According to WPT, this bracelet is made of solid silver and only the finalists of the main event get this. Right now, WPT has changed the design of these bracelets. WPT has partnered with Tiffany & Co. in recent years. And together, they have introduced a new symbolic bracelet that has diamonds engraved in titanium. Who won’t want them?
